We’re suckers for great oils, and when they can be
sourced naturally, it makes things even all the better.
Coconut oil has been touted for its great cooking,
healing and beauty uses for a long time and more
recently, we’ve begun to really take notice.
Great for the skin and hair, here are 5 reasons why
Coconut oil has quickly become one of our favourite
beauty oils.
1. Great cooking oil: Coconut oil can be used in a
number of ways for cooking. From cooking, frying
and even as a topping for popcorn and as a baking
oil, Coconut oil is a very handy cooking oil.
2. Moisturiser: Coconut oil is a great oil for
moisturising the skin, also because its been known
to remove spots from the body. It’s also great to
use on stretch marks during pregnancy, and the
guys aren’t left out either as it makes for a great
shaving moisturiser.
3. Make-up remover: Goodbye make-up removers, hello
coconut oil! Coconut oil makes a great healthy
substitute for make-up removers. It gets the job
done, while moisturising the skin so why not give it
a shot?
4. Great hair treatment: Looking to deep condition
your hair or perhaps split ends have got you in a
bind? Then coconut oil is the perfect remedy for
you. Apply liberally on the hair, especially on the
ends and leave for about 20 minutes or even
overnight if you can, for healthier, glossier hair. It
doesn’t smell bad either, so that’s a plus.
5. Health benefits: Coconut oil is rich in fatty acids
(not the bad kind), rather Medium Chain
Triglycerides (MCTs) which are metabolised quickly
going straight to the liver from the digestive tract
where they are used as a quick energy source or
turned into so-called ketone bodies, which can have
therapeutic effects on brain disorders like epilepsy
and Alzheimer’s . It also significantly increases
energy expenditure by as much as 5%, resulting in
weight loss in the long run. Finally coconut oil
contains lauric acid which can kill harmful
pathogens like bacteria, viruses and fungi. What’s
not to love?
